Step 2

Yesterday I shared my sketches for my new Yummy collection of plushies. Today I'd like to share step 2 of my design process. I take my sketches into Illustrator and redraw them. During this step I can resize the drawings to make my plushies as big or small as I'd like them.

This is my step 2:

Hopefully tomorrow I can share some pictures of my prototype plushies.

Yummy New Collection

The beginning of the year is usually a slow time for craft shows and festivals. I've decided to take this time and work on a new collection of softies. I'm only in the drawing stage, these are only concepts, but hopefully in the next week or so I will get them onto the computer, redraw them in illustrator and start printing and sewing some prototypes. Here's a peak at what I've been working on.
Taco

Raspa (snow cone)

Chili & Jalapeno

Empanada (My favorite pastry!)

Avocados

(Please excuse the poor photos I took them with my phone.)

New Show Displays

I have a few shows coming up so I decided to try out some new ways to display my products. I bought a few fixtures, painted a few items and this is what I came up with. All that's left is to make some new table covers and a sign.
I painted a suitcase to display these cute little cucuys.

I repurposed a cupcake stand and shower spa to hold even more plushies.

When I saw this adorable little shopping basket I knew I needed it to hold plushies.

Now I better get back to working on that sign and table covers.

New: Giant Sugar Skull Pillows

I've been wanting to make these for a while and I finally had the time to get a few made. These Giant Sugar Skull Pillows came out awesome. They are roughly 17" x 17", perfect for a sofa, cozy chair or bed. I have a few more to make but I can't wait to get them into the shop.

Etsy 817 Valentine's Craft Along

The wonderful Etsy 817 team that I belong to has started a new activity, Craft-Alongs. What is a craft-along? Well a them is chosen and the participants are challenged to create a craft in that them. The Valentine's Day theme was Conversation Hearts.
I wanted to keep true to what I do, so I came up with a sequined conversation heart pillow. I chose the word Amor in keeping with my design style is influenced by my culture. I'm pleased at how my little pillow came out. I might have to make a few more, I'm thinking VIDA, & SUERTE . I can't wait for the next Craft Along.
Take a look at what the other members of Etsy817 came up with www.etsy817.blogspot.com .

Valentine's Bottle Cap Magnets

For the past few years my husband and I have been collecting bottle caps. We've had all kinds of plans for them, lots of different craft ideas, but for the most part they just sat their in a kitchen drawer. I finally pulled them out and decided to use them after seeing really cute mini shrines on the Crafty Chica's blog . I searched for the same cute little people figurines but couldn't find them anywhere. I decided to make my own. The plan was to sculpt them using air dry clay, but when I went to Michael's to buy the clay I found some really cute tiny gingerbread man shaped clay cutters. I made a couple dozen mini couples, painted the bottle caps, and assembled these tiny magnet shrines. I found these little poetry magnets in the dollar bin at target, they were really fun to put sayings together. Now what to do with them? Well I'll be sending them home with everyone who joins us Thursday for our Love Shrine workshop. If there are any left they may go home with some lucky Facebook friends.

New Business Cards

After the holidays I was left with only a hand full of business cards so it was time to reorder. I looked at the little stack that I had left and decided that they really didn't represent Studio Longoria very well.  This weekend I sat down to redesign my cards. I played around with the placement of my dolls on the standard card template, and I just wasn't feeling them. I was about to walk away when my husband looked at them and said "Why don't you use the new Silhouette Cameo machine to cut your cards the shape of the dolls?" Genius! I scrapped the design I was working on and started turning my doll designs into business cards. Now everyone that comes by booth at shows can take home one of my little muertos. They aren't perfect yet, I'm still working with lining them up to be cut, but they are super cute. I can't wait to pass these little guys out at my next event.
